Program Overview
A 12-week long intensive UX bootcamp program to educate about the basics of UX, design and research methodology, finding jobs, and interviewing.

Course Details
- Program duration: 12 weeks
- Class format: Online class meeting every week, with weekly assignments to be completed with a partner in the program
- Level: This is a beginner-level UX bootcamp. Students with little to no experience or looking to solidify ad hoc learnings will benefit the most. However, we also welcome junior and entry-level UX designers looking to improve their skills
- Weekly time commitment: 3 hours of lecture & 15โ20 hours of homework/self-study/partner collaboration
- Pre-requisite: No UX experience is necessary
- Students graduating from this program will have a strong understanding of UX design (strategy, research, wireframes), and will complete a single case study alongside a partner to demonstrate their skills.
- Software: Figma (education license will be provided), Notion, Zoom
Meet Your Teachers
Steven Wakabayashi
he/him
Steven Wakabayashi (he/him) is a creative director, changemaker, and founder of mission-driven organizations empowering historically marginalized communities within design, tech, and mindfulness industries. After leading creative teams at many notable brands and agencies including Apple, Google, Walmart, Huge, and Razorfish, he is now creating pathways for queer BIPOC creatives into the design industry through QTBIPOC Design.
Magz Karaya
they/them
Maggie is a UX Designer who enjoys building end-to-end digital experiences, and help foster design communities. They try to show up from a place of openness and playfulness - which applies to almost every aspect of their life. Itโs important for them to pay it forward by being a mentor and educator in the design community, especially for those those less represented within our industry.
Jamie Chow
She/They/๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ
Jamie is Product Design Lead passionate about accessibility and creating a psychologically safe space for marginalized designers, researchers, and empathy-driven world delight'ers within our QTBIPOC community. Together, let's empower and lift each other up โ so we can all live our most authentic best lives!
Community Partnerships
We are excited to create this program alongside other community partners as part of our teaching team and curriculum.
In an effort to make our program more inclusive and impactful for our students and greater community, we are excited to partner with Startups for All, integrating real-life products from underrepresented startups and founders into our curriculum.
We are excited to partner with Grouptrail this year to integrate their work into our program as a case study. Students will collaborate alongside Grouptrail to ideate and innovate products impacting students.
Everybody deserves accessible, quality education
Especially for our queer and BIPOC communities, breaking into and excelling in the creative industry shouldnโt be gated by expensive bootcamp courses or inaccessible professional organizations. The passion to create and the conviction to thrive should be the only requirement to finding success in the UX industry.
We created this organization as our form of joy, liberation, and celebration of our community.
Who is this program for?
- This program is for those who identify as both BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and/or person of color) and LGBTQ+. If you are interested in supporting the community as an ally, please reach out to us separately at [email protected].
