hi y'all! my name is grace (they/them) and i'm based in san francisco. i've always been interested in design (especially visual design) but this is the first time i'm 100% committed to learning it. i've taken some online courses in both UX and UI and i'm currently working on creating case studies and my portfolio. my ultimate goal is to be a freelance designer but my immediate goal is to land a full-time role as a designer. aside from design, i just love making things and using my hands! i enjoy printmaking, ceramics, sewing, making music, skateboarding, and cooking.

Hi, my name is Grae (they/he). I’m a Latinx nonbinary trans masc designer. I’m currently a freelance graphic designer hoping to branch out into UX Design. I dabbled a bit with UX design a few years ago at a start-up but never had the chance or the funds to fully explore it. As side hobbies, I enjoy illustrating/drawing, studying Aztec glyphs, and I recently got into wood carving/whittling but I still need much more practice. I’m really excited to be a part of this cohort at qtbipoc design.

Iris Xie

Iris Xie (they/them/theirs) is a writer, designer, artist and scholar-activist. They are finishing up their MFA Design at UC Davis in December 2022, and is also a double major in Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies and English at UC Davis. They are also part of Critical Design Lab, and QT Labs at the LGBTQIARC at UC Davis. Iris's journey in design is grounded in community organizing, speculative worldbuilding, and disability justice. They want to have a career in content design, service design or product design, and fighting for the needs of marginalized users. Iris is excited to meet y'all!

jazmín calderón torres (they/elle) is a trans-nonbinary mutli-racial boricua guided by their Black, Taino, and Spanish lineages. They are a Lead Producer, Curator at Lead to Life and transdisciplinary artist. Their design includes: bomba drummaking, writing, research, filmmaking, events, websites, products, and graphic design. jazmín is an apprentice to relationships with the more-than-human world having studied wildlife track and sign, indigenous land management, and ecological restoration. They have a BA in Art Practice, New Media and Ecosystems Management & Forestry from UC Berkeley.

I'm a recent graduated architect, trying to find myself on which way to go now. I always had an interest in graphic design and i started thinking as a possible career i could follow after starting taking freelance design jobs with two friends.
My curiosity over the technology field grew over the years, and i think UX/UI design is a perfect match for my studie's interest. I also wish to go abroad on the future and hope to get an opportunity with this career

I consider myself a bit of a “Jack of All Trades” so to speak, so I have a wide variety of interests that apply to a variety of fields. Main hobbies are anime/manga, theatre/film, art, craft beer and technology. I feel that art makes the world turn and it’s inclusion in the world of tech is essential. So while I’m currently a server with a college background in Theatre and International Relations, I feel there’s so many different paths to explore, I want to see as many as possible.

Hi everyone! I’m Shelly, they/them, I’m a Tribal member of the Pueblo of Acoma with affiliation to the Pueblo of Jemez in New Mexico. I identify as an Indigiqueer Two-Spirit, I enjoy learning and really look forward to building digital relations. I am inspired by documentaries, magical realism & storytelling. I am currently working on a multi-media painting series of Two-Spirit Reflections from my healing during this pandemic. I appreciate this opportunity and am very grateful to be a part, thank you.

My name is Ruben Gonzalez Diaz, and I am the Administrative Assistant and Regional Data Support for a non-profit organization in the Bronx. I graduated from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in Public Administration. While in school, I got certified as a legal translator and interpreter. I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. Currently, I am learning how to play the flute and how to do bouldering and rock climbing.

Currently employed in academia but looking to transition into UX Research. I currently study/teach/research the literatures and cinema of the Portuguese-speaking world (Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Cabo Verde) with an emphasis on the intersections of food/eating, masculinities, and nation-building. Outside of work, I'm a member of several sports teams, with soccer being my main passion. I love getting together with friends, making friends out of strangers, and helping others fall in love with this eclectic city I currently call home, Pittsburgh.
